The Maldives enjoys consistently warm tropical waters throughout the year. These temperatures are perfect for extended diving sessions without thick wetsuits. Peak warmth occurs during April-May, while the coolest period is December-March, though still very comfortable for diving.

35ft (10m) minimum, often 100ft+ (30m)

Crystal clear waters offer exceptional underwater visibility. Best visibility typically occurs during the dry season (December-April). Even during monsoon seasons, visibility rarely drops below 35ft, ensuring great diving experiences year-round. Outer atolls generally offer the clearest waters.

14-98ft (5-30m)

Perfect depths for all certification levels. Shallow reefs (14-50ft) are ideal for beginners and macro photography, while deeper walls and channels (50-98ft) offer encounters with larger marine life including manta rays, whale sharks, and schools of pelagic fish.

Stronger near full & new moons; milder in between

Tidal currents bring nutrient-rich waters that attract large marine life. Strong currents during full and new moons create excellent opportunities for drift diving and big fish encounters. Quarter moon phases offer gentler conditions perfect for relaxed exploration and photography.
